______________ Great question!
What separates Wolff from the “pack” is our
high-grade phosphor, which produces consistent results, beautiful color
and long lamp life. Also, we’ve been standing behind our sunlamps for
28 years – you cannot be in business that long if you make an inferior
product.
The phosphor coating on the inside of the glass tube is the source of
a sunlamp’s tanning power. Just as there are many roads to Rome, there
are many phosphor blend combinations that give similar spectral results,
but not all individual phosphor components are created equal. The best
choice should be the phosphor that has the highest purity, the highest
efficiency (UV output per watt of power consumption), the slowest natural
depreciation (decline in UV output over time), and the highest reliability
in the manufacturing environment. This is accomplished by using high-grade
phosphors.
Different phosphor blends produce different results and different UV wavelengths:
UVB is from 280-320 nanometers, UVA2 is from 320-340, and UVA1 is from
340-400nm. UVB stimulates melanin production and can burn the skin if
overexposed; UVA2 acts a lot like UVB, with melanin production and some
pigment darkening; it is also closely associated with elastosis (photoaging,
wrinkles). UVA1 penetrates deeper past the surface of the skin and is
primarily responsible for pigment darkening. Newer lamps are being designed
to focus on providing enough UVB to stimulate the melanin and aid in production
of vitamin D, plenty of UVA1, and less UVA2.
Besides the best phosphor blends, quality assurance is of utmost importance.
When you purchase a Wolff System sunlamp, you are buying a product that
has passed stringent quality control assessments. Once in production,
Wolff System sunlamps undergo multiple quality inspections every step
of the way; any deviations from standard are identified before the lamps
complete the production cycle. All lamps are subjected to post-production
quality hold, where once again the lamps are tested before shipping. A
small quantity of each run is held back from shipping for thorough evaluation
and life testing. Our ever-expanding volume of performance data constantly
updates and refines the standards for each lamp type.
For 28 years, Wolff System has been proud to produce lamps that reliably
tan your customers. If you should ever have a quality question, contact
