Dear Readers,

I’m writing this letter on the first day of summer – looking out my office window, it’s a gorgeous, sunny day – I wish I was on the lake…cold beverage in hand…but I digress.

On to more important matters. Many of you really need to check out our cover story, “Work Smarter – Salon Software Saves Time, Money.” If your salon is not yet computerized…H-E-L-L-O! I started out with client cards nearly 30 years ago and became one of Helios’ first customers – I can’t imagine growing my salon business to its current level without such a vital tool. Ribby spoke to several salon owners who made the switch from cards to software and are very happy with their decision.

I’m very happy to proclaim the fourth annual Industry Choice Awards officially underway! I can’t believe it’s already time to do it again, but it sure is a lot of fun. With our industry more competitive than ever, providers in all sectors are working harder than ever. Take a couple minutes to cast your votes and give recognition to the makers of your favorite products, and those people who make the tanning business better with their contributions to our industry. It’s so easy, and so much appreciated.

The Indoor Tanning Association is contributing to our industry – I attended their open Board meeting on June 19th in Washington, D.C. at the law offices of Akin-Gump, et al. The ITA invited a small group of salon owners representing every industry sector...from a single store to a franchise chain with over 200 locations. Topics included an ITA financial update and the upcoming World Expo. Attendees were asked how the ITA could improve the Expo – everything was on the table: education and certification, the tradeshow floor, even the final night party was discussed. The Board wants to take the annual show and kick it up a few notches. Also discussed were regulatory affairs, the ITA PAC, research and the UV Foundation. I came away with the same feeling I’ve tried to convey in my Publisher’s letter for many years: the ITA needs YOUR help! You can help this group do more for our industry. First, you MUST become a member. Your ITA Board of Directors is working very hard to protect our industry and the rights of indoor tanners. Don't let legislation sneak into your state and catch you with your pants down! We will be covering how you can help the ITA in our August issue.

Last but not least, I want to congratulate my good friend Christian Sauska of Light Sources whose lovely fiancée Katherine gave birth to a bouncing baby boy on June 15. This kid’s got a rock ‘n roll daddy for sure! Welcome to the world, Christian Paul Sauska!

Thanks for reading –

Vince Lorraine, Publisher
