A FOND FAREWELL

Ronnie and Johnny Allen are saying goodbye to Four Seasons Sales & Service Inc., but not to the indoor tanning industry.

After heading Four Seasons Sales & Service Inc. for more than 20 years, brothers Ronnie and Johnny Allen have sold the distribution company. This doesn’t mean that the two are leaving the indoor tanning industry behind, though. They still have their Express Tan salon chain, which means that tanning’s most popular twins will continue to be a part of this industry for many years to come.

Four Seasons was purchased on August 20, 2004 by grocery store conglomerate Houchens Industries. Although the distribution company wasn’t on the market, Ronnie and Johnny were approached by representatives from Houchens with a deal that was too good to refuse. “This is a great opportunity, especially for the employees of Four Seasons,” said Johnny. “Houchens has agreed to keep the business in Paris, TN and retain the original management. They’re a very strong company that will be able to provide many wonderful benefits for the Four Seasons employees.”

Parting with Four Seasons

wasn’t easy for the brothers. After all, the two had put much of their hearts into the business that started as a tanning salon. “Back in 1984, someone approached my wife, Ann, about putting a tanning bed in her beauty salon and I decided to look into it,” Ronnie said. “After doing some research, I liked the idea and wanted to start a tanning salon because there weren’t any in Paris, TN at that time.” Ronnie approached his slightly older brother about this idea, but Johnny was enjoying the success of his mobile auto parts business. Still, the two are very close and he decided to back Ronnie’s play. They each took out second mortgages on their homes to finance their venture, which soon grew into distribution of tanning equipment and accessories. “It’s been great ever since!” Johnny exclaimed.

After 20 years owning and operating Four Seasons, the brothers have some kind parting words. “Johnny and I want to thank the Four Seasons employees, the manufacturers and all our salon clients who’ve helped make this business a success over the years,” Ronnie said. “We won’t forget you.”
